We started our Family Gap Year in 2021, amid all the uncertainty in the world. After traveling for a year, we realized we had so much more to see! We became a full-time traveling family, and have learned a lot about planning and pace that we’d love to share with you.

1. Start Planning Early. Whether you’ll sell your house, rent it, or simply not renew a lease, planning to uproot your life takes time. There are lots of logistical bits to plan and align before you lock the door and head out on your family adventure. Give yourself plenty of time to plan ahead so you’re not scrambling at the last minute.

2. The Sky’s the Limit. Everyone’s Family Gap Year is different. Maybe you dream of circling the globe, or maybe you’d rather slow travel through a few countries. There are no rules- dream away, then make it happen!

3. Be Flexible. The world is a crazy place, and you may find that a country you were planning to visit no longer makes sense for your family. Whether it is a political or safety issue, or just the types of activities that are resonating with your family, be ready to adjust your plan.
